OMG - Oh My God! - Review

OMG - Oh My God!

Starring Paresh Raval as Kanjibhai, and Akshay Kumar as GOD. Directed by Umesh Shukla.

This is a movie mean for this age. A world filled with believers and non-believers n the Almighty. The story revolves around Kanjibhai who is a non-believer in God, and after a series of unfortunate events, sues God.
The movie is based on a Gujarati play. It has been wonderfully written, and has gathered a lot of praise from audiences of all ages. Paresh Raval is brilliant in his role (As always), and is ruthless enough to make you believe that he is a staunch non-believer of God.

The script is powerful here, and it has been written quiet perfectly so as not to hurt the feelings of anyone, or any religion for that sake. Firstly, I never thought that people would actually go to see such a movie, but I was surprised when it ran houseful for a few weeks. It deals cautiously with religion and shows how people are duped in the name of God, in the name of devotion. How some wrong people take their advantage on a massive scale, and snatch millions in the process. It shows the ugly truth, and an even uglier side of the many wannabe/false/crooks who display themselves as holy men/women, people of God, Baba/Mata/Saints/Priests, etc. and misguide people to donate lot of money to them; how it has been turned into a business; how your faith and devotion is being played with. Akshay Kumar plays God in this movie, and his role enters nearing the end of the first half. As always, he has done his part nicely, not too showy, not too shabby, not too funny or entertaining, but decent. It has a lot of known faces playing well known (but, slightly altered) religious people.

It has come out at a time where the faith in people has been damaged because of the arrests of many false guru's, baba's who have misled many in the name of God. Maybe that's why it connected with the people.

However, I feel the movie shows a more negative side, whereas, it should have been even more clever to maintain the thin border between belief and non-belief, and should have left it to the audience to judge the matters on their own. But, instead, it only shows what the makers think, and have provided to the crowd. It has obviously had some pretty mixed reviews, but still managed to gather a lot of revenue.

Definitely a must watch for people of all ages, and all religions.
