Pacific Rim is an upcoming science fiction movie by Guillermo Del Toro, and starring Idris Elba.

The tagline of the movie explains it all: 'Giant Robots vs. Giant Monsters'. It is quiet opposite to the mindset that monsters come from outer space. Here, it is different. The Kaiju aka Monsters come from under the sea, through an interdimensional-rift at the bottom of the pacific ocean, the pacific rim. To fight these monsters, each country develops its own monsters - Jaegers aka Giant Robots to battle them.
