Kahaani - Review

Kahaani

Starring Vidya Balan, in the lead role, it is quiet an off-beat movie directed beautifully by Sujoy Ghosh.

It has a pretty strong script and as a different tone to it. It is a thriller that revolves aroud Vidya Balan's character 'Vidya Bagchi'. Set and shot in Kolkata, it deals with a pregnant Vidya Balan, who comes to India searching for her husband. What unviels are a series of secrets, strings of events, and a brilliant climax. Kolkata has been shot beautifully, it has never been captured in a better manner till date in any movie. Also, another factor, is the timing of the movie, it has been set around the tie of Durga Pooja.

The limelight of this movie is however stolen by Saswata Chatterjee's role of 'Bob Biswaas', a serial killer. His acting and timing is simply superb. Within the seriousness of serial killings, there is also the presence of a dash of humor brought about brilliantly by him. Parambrata Chatterjee has also acted his role of 'Rana' nicely in the movie, and gathered a lot of appraisal.

But, Vidya Balan, rises above everything else with her superb acting, the expressions, the timing, the dialogue delivery, leaves you wanting more of her acting. Her role is what makes this movie worth watching. I do wonder, if not for her, would anyone be able to do enough justice to this movie? would anyone even come closer to playing this role as amazingly as her? And the answer is No!

Vishal-Shekhar has done a tremendous job with the music of this movie. Amitabh Bachchan's rendition of Rabindranath Tagore's 'Ekla Cholo Re' is beautiful in the form of a song. All the soundtracks are quite different from each other and belong to different genre. The duo has gone a level beyond, and composed some extraordinary music for this movie. The feel of the songs is great!

This is a thriller you want to keep watching over and over! Something that makes you say "Never thought something like this could be made in India".
